Jewellery is made to last. Packaging shouldn’t create unnecessary waste.
At Rilave, we design jewellery to be kept and worn for years. Packaging has a different role: to protect your piece and make the unboxing feel special, without adding avoidable waste.Wherever possible, we use recycled and recyclable materials across our shipping and presentation packaging, while maintaining the quality and protection your jewellery deserves. Most Rilave orders are packed using paper-based materials rather than plastic fillers.
Your parcel typically includes:
- A sturdy outer mailing box made from recycled cardboard, designed to protect your jewellery during transit.
- A branded Rilave jewellery box made from cardboard with a removable insert.
- Tissue paper and/or paper padding in place of plastic bubble wrap.
- Paper stickers and paper address labels where suitable.
Our jewellery boxes and tissue are selected so that the paper and card components can usually be recycled in standard UK household recycling collections once any non-paper elements are removed.
Where specific components differ, this may vary slightly depending on the product and packaging batch.
The majority of the paper and cardboard used in our shipping and presentation packaging is produced using recycled fibres, sourced from specialist packaging suppliers.
Using recycled fibres helps reduce reliance on virgin paper materials and supports the continued reuse of existing resources.
Where we state a specific recycled percentage for a component, this is based on supplier documentation and material specifications.
Once your order arrives, we encourage you to reuse or recycle the packaging wherever possible.
Mailing box
Flatten and place in your household paper/card recycling collection. If heavily taped, remove excess tape before recycling.
Tissue paper and paper padding
Recycle with paper and card once free from stickers or non-paper attachments.
Jewellery box
The cardboard base can usually be recycled with paper/card collections. Remove any foam, fabric or non-paper inserts first and dispose of those in general waste if your local authority does not accept them.
Labels, tape and small stickers
Small amounts are typically removed during standard recycling processes. Where possible, remove excess tape before placing the box in recycling.
Recycling systems vary between local authorities and countries, so please check local guidance if you are unsure what materials are accepted in your area.
Rilave is working to reduce plastic-based packaging wherever suitable paper alternatives are available. We also avoid unnecessary extras such as single-use bags and excess printed leaflets.
Where a plastic component is still required for protection or hygiene reasons, we aim to keep it minimal while continuing to review improved alternatives with our suppliers.
Before placing packaging in recycling, consider reusing it.
Jewellery boxes can be used to store small pieces at home or when travelling. Sturdy outer boxes are ideal for returns, gifting or general storage.
Packaging expectations and regulations continue to evolve across the UK. Rilave regularly reviews packaging materials with suppliers, updates recycling guidance where necessary, and prioritises materials that are recycled, recyclable, and responsibly sourced.
Our aim is simple: your jewellery should arrive safely and beautifully presented with as little unnecessary waste as possible.
